xAI is preparing Grok Voice mode support for Apple CarPlay

9to5Mac reports that the latest Grok iPhone app already includes a placeholder Apple CarPlay app, even though the feature is not live yet. The current CarPlay screen reportedly displays the message “Grok Voice mode coming soon to CarPlay,” which strongly suggests xAI is preparing in-car voice access beyond its existing Tesla integration.

If the rollout happens, Grok would join ChatGPT and Perplexity in Apple’s in-car app environment, extending the competition for everyday assistant presence into the dashboard. That makes this a lighter story than a major model release, but it is still a concrete product-distribution move with clear relevance to how AI assistants are spreading across consumer surfaces.

The main limitation is that the feature appears to be present only as a placeholder for now, not as a live shipped CarPlay experience. Even so, the placeholder is specific enough to make this a legitimate near-term product signal rather than idle speculation.
