AI video is splintering across Grok, Kling, and Runway instead of consolidating around one winner

A new Ankler analysis argues that text-to-video is no longer settling into a single winner-take-most category. Instead, the market appears to be fragmenting across different use cases, with Grok tied more closely to consumer feed dynamics, Kling to creator workflows, and Runway to professional production tools.

The Ankler says Grok currently accounts for the largest observed AI-video-tool traffic in Artificial Analysis data, while Runway, Google’s Veo and Flow, and Kling hold meaningful minority shares. The piece argues that the more important shift is structural rather than leaderboard-based: AI video is being absorbed into different distribution environments instead of maturing as one coherent standalone market.

That framing lines up with xAI’s current product surface. xAI’s public developer docs list the Grok Imagine API as its image and video generation path and price video generation at $0.05 per second. xAI’s broader model documentation also positions Grok Imagine as the company’s dedicated video product rather than a side feature inside the main chat model family.

A separate reported viral-video moment has added to the attention around Grok’s video capabilities. Coverage from Startup Fortune says an Elon Musk post showcasing improved Grok Imagine lip sync drew millions of views within hours, reinforcing the view that Grok’s strongest position may be distribution-scale consumer video rather than traditional studio tooling. Taken together, the current reporting points to a market that is spreading into distinct product lanes rather than converging around one dominant AI-video platform.
