GitHub makes remote control for local Copilot sessions generally available
GitHub Copilot CLI sessions can now be monitored and steered from github.com and GitHub Mobile, giving developers a way to start agentic coding work locally and continue managing it from another device.
The remote-control feature works with Copilot sessions started in VS Code or the CLI. Developers can enable it with `/remote on`, then view the same session from the web or GitHub Mobile app. GitHub is also bringing remote control into VS Code and JetBrains IDEs.
Remote sessions show Copilot activity in real time, including plans, files read, changes made, and commands run. Developers can send follow-up instructions, redirect a session, expand the scope of work, approve or deny permission requests, review changes, and create or review pull requests while away from the original machine.
The feature works with repositories and with directories that are not inside repositories. Sessions are private by default and visible only to the user.
The release extends GitHub’s agentic development workflow across CLI, IDE, web, and mobile surfaces, turning local Copilot sessions into portable work streams rather than single-device tasks.
