OpenAI expands AWS partnership with Bedrock model access, Codex support, and managed agents
OpenAI is expanding its partnership with Amazon Web Services and launching three offerings in limited preview: OpenAI models on Amazon Bedrock, Codex on AWS through Bedrock, and Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents powered by OpenAI.
The Bedrock rollout includes access to OpenAI models such as GPT-5.5 inside existing AWS environments. That gives AWS customers a way to use OpenAI models within the security controls, identity systems, governance processes, and procurement workflows they already use.
Codex can also now be configured to use Amazon Bedrock as its provider. The limited preview initially covers Codex CLI, the Codex desktop app, and the Visual Studio Code extension. OpenAI positions that path for customers that want AWS-based billing, security controls, and availability while using Codex through the Bedrock API.
The third launch is Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents powered by OpenAI. The service is designed to let enterprises deploy agents that maintain context, use tools, and execute multi-step workflows inside AWS-managed environments.
Notes for review: Vendor announcement. All three offerings are described as limited preview.
