OpenAI says Codex is used by more than 4 million people each week
OpenAI says Codex is now used by more than 4 million people each week and is being deployed by companies including Cisco, Datadog, Dell Technologies, NVIDIA, Ramp, and Virgin Atlantic.
OpenAI was named a Leader in Gartner’s 2026 Magic Quadrant for Enterprise AI Coding Agents. The company says Codex has been improved with GPT-5.5, stronger tool use, faster performance, and deeper support for enterprise software development workflows.
Codex can understand codebases, use development tools, make changes, run tests, and prepare work for human review. OpenAI is also emphasizing enterprise controls including approval gates, role-based access control, sandboxing, policy controls, and auditability.
Recent customer examples focus on code review, testing, refactoring, and software delivery. Ramp uses Codex for pull request review and internal engineering tools. Virgin Atlantic used Codex during work on a revamped mobile app and reported near-complete unit test coverage and zero P1 defects at launch.
Virgin Atlantic also reported faster legacy refactoring, including some work that moved from weeks to under an hour. Ramp reported faster pull request feedback and broader use of Codex in engineering workflows.
