GitHub will move Copilot to usage-based billing on June 1
All GitHub Copilot plans will transition to usage-based billing on June 1, 2026, replacing premium request units with GitHub AI Credits.
Usage will be charged by token consumption, including input, output, and cached tokens, using published model rates. Base subscription pricing is not changing: Copilot Pro remains $10 per month, Pro+ remains $39, Business remains $19 per user, and Enterprise remains $39 per user. Each plan will include a matching monthly allotment of AI Credits.
Standard code completions and Next Edit suggestions will remain included and will not consume AI Credits. Fallback experiences for exhausted premium request quotas are going away. Under the new model, usage will instead be governed by remaining credits and, for organizations, by budget controls.
For business and enterprise customers, GitHub will provide promotional included usage for June through August, add pooled included usage across organizations, and introduce budget controls at the enterprise, cost-center, and user levels. Copilot code review will also consume GitHub Actions minutes in addition to AI Credits.
Notes for review: Official pricing announcement. Effective date is June 1, 2026.
