Cisco Uses OpenAI Codex to Build Enterprise AI Security Products
Cisco is using OpenAI Codex inside production engineering workflows, including work on AI Defense, its end-to-end AI security product for protecting against AI-related safety and security risks.
OpenAI said Codex helped Cisco compress engineering work that would have taken several quarters into weeks. Cisco used Codex to write the majority of AI Defense and nearly every new feature now being built for the product, according to OpenAI’s case study.
Cisco’s use case goes beyond code completion. The company embedded Codex into large multi-repository systems, C and C++ codebases, compile-test-fix loops, and enterprise review, security, and governance processes. Cisco also worked with OpenAI’s Daybreak initiative, which combines OpenAI models, Codex, and security partners to improve cyber defense.
The deployment shows how coding agents are moving from individual developer tools into enterprise software operations. Cisco’s work gives OpenAI a high-profile example of Codex operating inside complex, regulated engineering environments.
