Intel and Apple reach a preliminary chip-making deal
Intel reached a preliminary deal to manufacture some chips for Apple devices after more than a year of talks, with the arrangement finalized in recent months.
The deal would support Intel’s contract manufacturing business and broaden Apple’s manufacturing options beyond TSMC. The report also says the U.S. government helped bring Apple to the negotiating table as part of a broader push to strengthen domestic semiconductor manufacturing.
Intel shares rose 15% on the news while Apple shares were up about 1.7% in afternoon trading. It remains unclear which Apple products would use Intel-made chips, and both companies declined comment.
